Crafty Jennifer {First project complete!}…

I have mentioned this before…and I’m sure I will mention this again…I am not crafty.  The learning curve is steep on the craft front.  I admire women (and men) who can create adorable projects from scraps of paper and spray glue.

BTW…spray glue is not my friend.  I have a bone to pick with my friend Katy.  She mentioned holding up a piece of paper and spraying it with the glue was how she accomplished several projects.  Noted.  I tried it.  Glue was stuck to my thumb for 3 days!  Nothing worked to remove it!  She failed to mention that part. 😉

Okay…so I’m not crafty but I did manage to complete one craft project.  My jewelry board of which I am so proud!

My inspiration came from Pinterest.  See here.

You will need:

  • Plywood (1/2″ thick)
  • Fabric
  • Cabinet knobs & handles
  • Machine screws (the ones that came with the knobs were too long)
  • Drill
  • Drill bits
  • Patience

My dad cut the plywood for me.  Thanks Daddy! 🙂 I used an old shirt for the fabric.  I stapled the fabric to the plywood.  What a job that was!  Ha!  At one point, Raymond said “Oh My Gosh!  What are you doing?!”  Every time I pulled the trigger for the staple gun I would either go flying forward or to the side and yell “Ouch!”.  Makes me laugh still thinking about it.  🙂

Recap of the project:

Plywood boards.

Shirt used for fabric.

Drill stuck in board. This happened A LOT!

Second try is a charm. Screwed the knobs in before covering with fabric.

All done! This is the second board. The first one was crooked.

Words of wisdom:

  • Dont cover the board with fabric first.  You cant drill through fabric.
  • Quilting batting is not a good idea.  Just go with plywood and fabric.  The batting bunched!
  • Make yours cuter than mine.  I would change the fabric and maybe decorative ribbon.
  • Buy a new drill.  My old lady drill almost bit the dust…saw dust that is.  HA! I crack myself up. 🙂

So what do you think? 🙂

Another project update coming soon!

Until next time…

  1. i actually did mention that i had glue all over my thumb…that was the whole point of my story of that spray glue 🙂

  2. Yeah! It came out great 🙂 I stopped in Hobby Lobby today (my first time) and I was amazed! It is like AC Moore and Home Goods combine into one store!! They had an awesome assortment of knobs and pulls, I bet that would be nice for a jewelry board.
